snapstors travel. photography. adventure. latest menu search search for: follow us facebook twitter latest stories previous next snapstors trek to chembra peak – travel photography adventure latest stories snapstors photo tours snapstors trek to chembra peak – travel photography adventure snapstors january 26, 2016, 6:49 pm 46 views snapstors photo tour to chembra peak, wayanad, kerla. a trip to one of the biggest peaks of kerala, the greatest sceneries and the most romantic place in the country. the 9 of us were packed in a traveller bus, ready to be shipped to waynad district, all the way down to kerala. we’ve done our research about the place but as you’ll see and read about it soon, seeing is believing. it was the first time for me using the canon ef 8-15 f/4l lens that i had rented, and it was the only lens i used over there… kerala being a landscape goldmine, seemed like the best contender to put the lens to good use. the first place we dropped in here at kerala was the edukkal caves, a natural cave on the entrance of meppadi, quite filled with tourists on the weekends, but a worthy climb. it brought back memories of belum caves, in andhra pradesh, but a whole lot smaller and points upwards rather than down. after the upward battle of climbing a steep road, and climbing down it with a breeze, the most cherished moment was the lime soda that we chugged down on. it was the perfect aphrodisiac to beat the sweat and heat! next on our list was lunch, as interrupted by our growling stomachs and when you’re in god’s own country thinking like a foodie, all that comes to your mind is continental fish, kerala kotthu parota and lots more. thankfully, we found a good restaurant just before our homestay that satisfied all these needs. we found solace finally at the jackfruit tree homestay just behind the peak we were about to scale up the next day. it was an amazing environment all around the place, with typical kerala tea estates all over the area and kids playing football in a small field just behind the house. it was the kind of place to get retired to, the kind of place to stare at every evening, the kind of place that makes you fall in love. we roamed around the place in search of some more brilliant locations to shoot, and set up camp just a few minutes away from the stay to shoot our sunset… the sun was the same as in the city but when you’re in a exotic place like this, all the stars feel as if they shine just for you! we went back home with a pretty good shot, and with the sun setting, the clouds came in just in time. this meant that we couldn’t set up our cameras to shoot the stars, but despite all hardships, i went out in the dark and shot a trails till midnight, because that’s all i could handle. not sure how the photo has come out, will only know once i process back home, but can’t wait to see how it’s going to come out! the next morning, we woke up in excitement and mental stability to climb our hearts out of chembra peak… but alas, only later did we find out we were a bit short of the stamina. this was my first uphill trek ever, and while it is some kind of overkill to climb up the highest peak of kerala, it felt worlds apart to have scaled it in the end. the climb up was extremely tiring, made me lose hope in life for more than multiple times and made me rethink my whole life around exercise. but once we reached the peak, it felt like we accomplished the world. we were greeted by an amazing heart shaped lake on first step of the peak and it felt like a natural miracle. we went around the lake, which was pretty huge, trying to find angles that made it look more like a heart, and i finally had got one. the climb felt worth it. later we moved on to the right side of the peak to find a landscape of the whole city of meppadi and sulthan bathery all in one view. it was a surreal experience, and i’m glad i didn’t give up while climbing up there (even though i wanted to at the time). the walk down was much easier than expected, since gravity was finally on our side for once. we slipped a little, laughed a little, helped out other trekkers a little… but most of all, the sigh of relief we let out once we reached the bottom was the most worth it. i’m sitting here on the ride back home, writing this on a pretty bumpy way, listening to some malayalam music to really get into the mood… and while i do feel sad about leaving this amazing place, like many others have, but i’m glad i made some memories worth remembering for a lifetime and photographs worth framing. author amruthpillai search for: recent posts snapstors trek to chembra peak – travel photography adventure recent comments archives january 2016 categories snapstors photo tours back to top skip to toolbar about wordpress wordpress.org documentation support forums feedback log in register search
